Pattern Details

Simplicity 8890 is such a great pattern for summer time! It has two different garments to create a fabulous vacation/resort wear vibe that is great for wearing all day into the night time! This design was made by MiMi G Style so I knew it would offer lots of details that I would love!

View A is a jacket with large lapels and a waist tie! Its meant to be made with light weight woven fabric to be a lighter layer to add warmth, perhaps on a summer night or indoors. View B, which is what I’m sharing today, is a cross back, backless slip dress.

This dress has sliders and rings up make those cross back straps adjustable and add a little luxe touch to the garment. I chose to use rose gold sliders and rings because they suit this fabric so well! Plus, they’re so pretty, I’d honestly have used rose gold either way because it’s my favorite!

The backless aspect of this dress really drew me in because it’s perfect for hot, hot weather! The skirt comes together with a tie that you can adjust how low down you would like it to dip. I wanted my dress to have maximum back exposed but if I wanted a little bit more coverage I would be able to tie them tighter to achieve that!

For this dress, I cut a size 10. My measurements say I should be a size 14. However, the finished measurements made me decide on a size 10 because I wanted it to fit similarly to how the sample looks on the pattern envelope. It is still a rather loose fitting garment so it’s important to keep that in mind when you pick a size.

Fabric Acknowledgment

I like a good flowing dress for warm weather and there is something about Rayon fabrics that appeal to me over most other fibers during the summer. For this slip dress, I chose to use Viscose Crepe fabric from Atelier Brunette. This is their Sandstorm design in the blush colorway. I was gifted this fabric from Minerva in exchange for a post about it!

This Viscose Crepe is extremely lightweight and breathable! I wore this dress to the Houston Zoo and it was 100° that day with no cloud cover! Needless to say, I was very hot! But I could not have been more pleased with how comfortable I was in this dress! It was breezy and perfect for the occasion!

Final Thoughts

I am very happy with this garment! I have already made plans for more of these with some tweaks here and there! It’s so comfortable and cute for summer time! It also doesn’t take very long to make this garment either! It’s a quick sew for a woven garment! If you’re looking for a great vacation dress or just a great summer dress, this would be my recommendation to you!
