Nero
4.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Nero was an unhinged dark romance story, and I absolutely ate this one up! One of my favorite tropes is man obsessed and Nero is 100% obsessed with Payton. And I’m like this— if you’re not murdering my enemies then you are not good enough for me. In books obviously… but Nero just was everything for me. I loved how he instantly fell for her and I love how he tried to protect her and keep her safe but also, I just loved how spicy this book was and I mean so spicy.
If you’re a dark romance reader, I feel like you would enjoy this tale because it is a little bit like a mix between romcom and dark mafia romance. It’s definitely much lighter but the themes here are for those who enjoy dark books. It’s not too gory. It’s not too heavy into the mafia aspects, but there is enough there to create the suspense that we love and also to give us an idea of how very different these two people’s worlds are. And I just loved all the nods to Wizard of Oz because I love that movie so much. I highly recommend this one!
King
4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
King is the second book in the alliance series and I really liked this one. There were so many funny parts to this story that I really laughed out loud to. Not just lol but like with my voice, laughed out loud while reading this one. That wedding ceremony will be something that I will remember for a very, very long time. King and Nero‘s Bromance is something that I also really enjoyed. I like seeing the relationship from King’s point of view. I’m obsessed how protective King was and I also really liked Savannah in the story as well. I’ll found myself relating to Savannah quite a bit more than I did to Peyton, from the first book. She was just everything in the story because she just was such a spitfire. I can totally see why this book is so many people’s favorite! She and Kings story just made a lot of sense to me. I guess that’s the dark romance reader in me.
I love how encouraging King was to Savannah. There was a lot of really swoony stuff he said to her especially regards to her art. Being a creative person myself, I just found this to be very very swoon worthy. However, King sister was on my shit list because she was not very rational in her extreme dislike for Savannah, so that made me very upset. Also King what the heck you have all this money, I need you to step up your security situation for real.
This book was spicy, spicy and spicy! 🔥🔥
Out of the two: I definitely preferred Nero over King but I did really enjoy this book. King can get a spot in the book boyfriend category. I highly recommend this series and I recommend the story especially if you’re someone who likes dark romance.
Dom
5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Oh, Dom, you’re my favorite! I don’t care if you tell the others because you’re my favorite absolutely my favorite. One thing about me is that tattoos as a love language will always outweigh anything else. And Dom gets all the gold stars for that fact, alone. I enjoyed this story so so much from beginning to end. There was never a dull moment in this one and I just could not get enough. Dom is perfect for Valentine. He worked to resolve her insecurities and give her anything she would need to be happy with him. He was patient but pushed her when he felt she could handle it. But Dom’s obsession with Valentine was perfect! The more that we learn about just how obsessed his is made me even happier!
I loved how Val and Dom met. Their texting conversations were hilarious. I also adored how Dom called her mama and shorty and angel… I just loved it! There are some heavier themes in this book relating to anxiety, grief, abandonment and childhood trauma but I felt that SJ Tilly handled these topics so perfectly. The FMC‘s growth in this book was so beautiful and I love that it was because she had the support of Dom and the environment that he created for her to feel safe to grow and the ending. I could relate to Val in a lot of ways but I enjoyed her journey so much.
Was this book unhinged? Yes!! Very. Did I still love this book regardless? Yes!! Very. This book was spicy as hell. There was so much to love about both main characters and of the series. Dom is the one that I will 100% recommend if you’re going to read anything from the series! A big thank you to Valentine PR and the author for an advanced copy of this book for review!
