Twisted Obsession by S. Massery

Blurb

My name is Melody Cameron…
Or so I’ve been told.

When I wake up in the hospital with no memories, I’m shipped off to Denver to live with a distant cousin who knows nothing about me.
If family can’t help me remember my past, who will?

I don’t expect it to be a gorgeous hockey player ten years younger than me. He knows things about me he has no right to know.

Yet, he still keeps secrets.
He makes me work for every answer while he unlocks my desire—and fear.

Still. I’m blind. Naive.

And when his twisted obsession becomes apparent, it’s too late. For both of us.

Overall Rating

4.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Twisted Obsession was such a wild ride! From reading the prequel, I thought I knew exactly what I was getting into, but S. Massery shocked me with this one in the very best way! These characters are aged up and out of the college setting which is new for the series! I liked it and the age gap where the MMC Melody is ten years older than the MMC Jacob. I also loved the body positivity in this one too! Twisted Obsession is a dark hockey romance but also a bit of a mystery, as well, with Melody’s amnesia.

Jacob is so unique from the other Hockey Gods in the series. He’s cold and unfriendly, almost resentful of the fame that came along with his success in playing professional hockey. Definitely a loner and keeps to himself outside of the few guys that he gets along with in the sport (our other Hockey Gods). However, I loved how obsessed Jacob was with Melody! He’s a completely different guy around Melody. There was so much more to the affection he had for her than just the fact that he thought she was beautiful. He fawns over her intelligence, her artistic skill and everything about her! He was extremely supportive and also possessive of her. I really loved how he allowed her to remember things on her own, but also helped in any way that he felt she could handle.

Melody’s character was relatable in a lot of ways, but also so extremely sweet. Her journey from not having any idea about herself to deciding to stick with the things that she likes now, regardless of what she can remember, was really admirable. She was determined to find her way! We see her personality come through more and more as the book goes on. Melody is in danger, though she doesn’t know exactly what the danger is or where it’s coming from. She knows that there is something sinister that happened to her and trying to figure that out was an awesome mystery subplot for this dark romance story. This is the first book I’ve read with amnesia, so I didn’t know what to expect but I like the way that it was executed.

Twisted Obsession was, of course, super spicy as you can come to expect from this Hockey Gods series. Jacob is unorthodox and has his specific desires but Melody is not opposed to it. They had such intense chemistry, and I really enjoyed how Jacob just took what he wanted. The only person he wants is Melody: mentally, emotionally and physically. These two were hot!! Check the content warnings if you’re thinking about reading this one!

I highly recommend Twisted Obsession to my dark romance lovers especially if you’ve been reading this series this far. This is book 4, but this book can be read as a complete standalone. I would recommend you read the prequel to the story, if you are thinking about reading, Twisted Obsession. Thank you so much to the author for this advance copy for review! I’m so excited to see what Knox’s story will be like next!

“I’m so in love with you, Jacob Rhodes. The parts of you that the rest of the world doesn’t get to see. The shadows.”

“There was a before me, and there was an after me. But now that she’s back, there is no before—and there will be no after. I’m not letting her go.“

“You’re mine,” I whisper in her ear. “Nothing can change that.”

“I wouldn’t have hooked up with you. Even past-me couldn’t have been so bold.”
“Maybe not. But me? Past, present, future. I’ve always been bold.”

“Welcome home,” I say. My gut tightens. Fuck, I like calling it that. To her. For her. She lets out a little sigh, like maybe it feels right to her, too.

“I missed her and I hate her and I’m obsessed with her. This is torture.”

“well, I think I found my new religion. Jacob Rhodes’ tongue.”

“No matter what lessons she tries to teach me, I just don’t learn when it comes to her. What can I say? I was always a bad student.”

“I don’t give a shit if the room was filled with naked women. I only want you. I only react to you. I’m only obsessed with you.”

“He kisses me like he’s been dying to do it for ages.”

“In a way, it’s romantic. That’s what she deserves. To be wooed and cherished. And sometimes, she deserves to be called a dirty little whore and fucked like an animal. I don’t make the rules.”

“Will you hate me if I continue to love you the way you need to be loved?”

“Break for me, songbird.”
