Blurb

Acclaimed author Kresley Cole introduces a sizzling new series with this tale of a fierce werewolf and a bewitching vampire — unlikely soul mates whose passion will test the boundaries of life and death.

A mythic warrior who’ll stop at nothing to possess her . . .

After enduring years of torture from the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the predestined mate he’s waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.

A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy . . .

Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents — until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. There, her fear of the Lykae — and their notorious dark desires — ebbs as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.

An all-consuming desire . . .

Yet when an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the fighter she was born to be?

Lachlain and Emmaline! This paranormal romance is the official first full length novel of the Immortals After Dark series. This kidnapping romance is dark and spicy, spice, spicy! Kresley Cole will make you fall hard for her characters as they fall for each other. I found this book to be so funny at times between Emma’s witty remarks and Lachlain’s blatant ignorance that he was falling in love. I’m so so happy I made the choice to reread this one!

After being trapped in a torture chamber forced to burn for lifetimes only to be brought back to life again and again… Lachlain, leader of the Lykae clan, is understandably succumbing to madness—losing his mind. The only saving grace to his sanity is the scent/sense that his mate is somehow close to where he is being held captive. He endures unspeakable pain to free himself and get to her! Only he finds out that his mate is a VAMPIRE! And that couldn’t be any worse because he’s just spent lifetimes suffering under the hands of vampires. Free of his imprisonment Lachlain kidnaps Emmaline, his vamp mate, and forces her to help him get back to his kingdom to rule as the leader of the werewolves. Oh, one more problem! He needs Emma alive and the only thing she drinks… is blood.

These two together were very sweet at times but I loved when they were at each other’s throats too lol There is plenty of high action scenes with their journey from Paris to Scotland, breaking headboards, slashing beds, and cracking marble. The romance and personal growth we see from both main characters was so satisfying as well! The world is rich with great supporting characters who make this book feel real. You can easily forget that you’re reading when Kresley starts telling her tale!

I will never stop recommending A Hunger Like No Other to my dark romance and paranormal romance lovers! Immortals After Dark is such a comfort series for me! I love reading these because if I’m in this series, I’ll always have a good read to look forward to! Next up is No Rest for The Wicked and I can’t wait because I love Sebastian and Kaderin!

Hot! Hot! Hot! This book is erotica. There are innuendo and explicit scenes throughout the book from basically the beginning!

Main Characters

Female Main Character

Emmaline Troy

Emmaline is one of a kind! She’s the first creature of the Lore that we meet who is more than one species or “other”. She is both Valkyrie and Vampire, which I personally think is the coolest combination! Young for an immortal, Emma has been sheltered by her Valkyrie aunts. She tries to go out on her own to learn more of her parents but she gets snagged by Lachlain. Meek and timid, Lachlain pushes Emma’s boundaries and forces her to toughen up to stand up for herself against him. She more than meets that challenge! I absolutely adored Emma’s funny personality as a pop culture nerd! She’s witty and self-deprecating but I loved how she held her own as much as possible. Her story arc was so badass! Seriously, I loved how Emma came into her own strength.

Male Main Character

Lachlain MacRieve

Lachlain is bossy but actually so sweet! His internal conflict over Emma being his mate and a vampire was hilarious! He wanted to resist falling for her or even liking her but he can’t. He fusses over her and takes care of her even when he doesn’t know how. His pain and past cloud his judgment when we first meet him but his growth through the book was so amazing to see! I loved getting to see what was under that rage he held onto like a lifeline through the first half of the book. Night and day difference!

Setting / World / Universe

We visit Paris, Scotland and New Orleans from the Lore perspective! It’s pretty nice to be somewhere familiar but through new eyes. I liked Kinevane, the Lykae kingdom. Some of the IAD books read like fantasy, this book reads like paranormal. Hotels, car rides, restaurants that are most of the scenery. Val Hall (Valkyrie coven) and Kinevane are the two Lore entities that we get to see parts of.

“You can have him, kitties”

“She was unique among all the females he’d ever seen.”

“Now, undress for me and let me see what’s mine.”

Apparently, Emma was born to get kidnapped by a deranged Lykae. Her fate sucked.

“I said alone!”
“Aye, you usually say that, and I still stay. It’s our way.”

“It’s not if you castrate an entire Roman legion, it’s if they believe you did. Perception is everything.”
